Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes - What do we teach?

At Roleta Brazilian Jiu Jitsu martial arts academy we specialise in teaching the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu). Brazilian Jiu Jitsu evolved from Japanese JuJitsu which the samurai practiced in feudal Japan.

Our martial arts experience.

Roleta BJJ was formed by Master Roberto Roleta Magalhaes. 4 x World champion, 4 x Brazilain National champion,4 x Pan Am champion, to name but a few of his achievements. He felt that there was a shortage of good Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instructors in Europe, hence was born Roleta Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. All of the instructors are black belt qualified and all the assistant instructors are at brown belt level. All of our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instructors have been police vetted, hold full professional training qualifications and covered by full public/indemnity insurance.

What some of our members say

Our members range from students to business professionals – but once inside, we treat everyone the same. Here's what some of them had to say about us:

I have been in the martial arts for over ten years but I have finally found my home, the instructors are very good at conveying their message and most of all, it’s a relaxed fun atmosphere.
Ross, 32, Graphic Designer

The atmosphere is great - the instructors and students are really supportive of each other regardless of level or grade. It's a brilliant environment in which to train and learn.
Hussain, 31, Solicitor

If you really want to get fit, have fun doing it, but challenge yourself in a safe environment, this is the way to do it.
Chris, 38, Mortgage Advisor

The instructors are very skilled and technically brilliant, and they can break down and explain the principles of any move. They run a disciplined club, but it is very friendly and laughter is encouraged!
Jonathan, 22, Teacher

The classes are great and the atmosphere is always fun and relaxed.
Stavros, 19, Student

The benefits of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for children include:

  • Builds confidence
  • Self-esteem
  • Self-discipline
  • Respect
  • Concentration
  • Courtesy
  • Brazilian jiu jitsu is ideal for children who do not do well in team sports, giving them the ability to flourish in this activity, while combining physical and mental practices.
  • Many do not realize this, but it is a fact that martial arts training is safer than most school sports.
  • Children with special needs, such as ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder), learning difficulties and hyperactivity are often recommended to participate in martial arts because of the clear benefits in its structured training techniques.

What to look for in a good Brazilian Jiu Jitsu School

Before you sign up your child for their first martial arts class, take some time to check out the different methods available, and match it with what you know would suit your child best. This is a good way to avoid any problems that may sprout from a conflict of your child’s personality and the training techniques.

Is your little child a sensitive soul? Then maybe a class that doesn’t center on sparring (full-on kicks and punches training) but rather, slower, defensive maneuvers would fare better for him. Kids with an aggressive streak, however, may prefer the more forceful moves and thrive in competitive sparring.

1. Good Instructors

Check out their qualifications, teaching methods and watch carefully how they interact with the other children. It should be a fun learning experience!

2. Space and Safety

Obviously you would want to entrust your child in as establishment that is safe, well-maintained, and clean with ample space as well as decent facilities and equipment.

3. School Values

Different brazilian jiu jisu schools inevitably go by different values, for instance. Take some time to observe which school’s ideals match your family’s principles.
